The latest information and updates from Alltech Mycotoxin Management.
Welcome to our first Farmfeed of 2022.
Over the last few months, we have been busy analyzing the mycotoxin patterns from harvest 2021, and below, we share summaries of those analyses from the key grain-growing regions. We are excited to see the return of in-person events and will hopefully have an opportunity to meet with you throughout the year.
In May, our teams will be at the World Mycotoxin Forum in Italy and the Alltech ONE Conference in Kentucky. If you are attending any of these events, we would love for you to drop by and say hello. If you have not had a chance to read some of our media articles, we have compiled our most recent copies for you to enjoy. Thank you for reading, and we welcome any feedback, queries or comments you may have.
2021 Harvest Analyses Programs
Each year, Alltech carries out comprehensive mycotoxin testing programs across the key global grain-growing regions that help uncover the mycotoxin threat in newly harvested crops. Using the links below, you can watch the harvest webinar recordings from each region!
In 2021, Alltech surveyed the Asia Pacific region to uncover the mycotoxin risk in aquaculture. These results were presented in a live webinarin January. Almost 200 samples were collected from Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam and tested at our Alltech 37+® analytical laboratories or locally using the Alltech RAPIREAD® system, utilizing Neogen lateral-flow technology. Samples consisted of complete feed and the most commonly used aquafeed raw materials. Most of the raw materials, such as corn, wheat and soybean, were imported from either Europe or the Americas.
Alltech is proud to sponsor The World Mycotoxin Forum Conference, which will be held in Parma, Italy, on May 16–18. We are delighted to be returning to this leading international conference in person this year. In attendance will be representatives from our research, technical and commercial teams, so if you would like to meet and learn more about our mycotoxin management program, or discuss any potential collaboration opportunities, feel free to get in touch beforehand or drop by our booth during the event.
The Alltech ONE Conference (ONE) will return to Lexington, Kentucky, for a collaborative exploration of the challenges and opportunities in the agri-food industry and beyond. This 38th annual flagship event will be held May 22–24, both in person and virtually on a first-class platform, with live-streaming and on-demand presentations available to ensure accessibility to everyone, everywhere. We are planning a very exciting mycotoxin-specific workshop, and there may even be a free lunch! If you are traveling to the Bluegrass this May, it would be great to have you join us to learn more about all things mycotoxins!
Straw may not always be considered a primary concern when it comes to mycotoxin risk. However, in this article, Dr. Radka Borutova highlights how testing in Denmark has revealed some worrying levels of DON contamination in samples tested there.
Climate change and the impact on mycotoxin presence are becoming an ever-increasing area of interest for feed and livestock producers. In this WATT Feed Strategy article, read how some leading industry commentators view the challenges that changing weather patterns may bring to the feed sector.
Debunking the myths behind mycotoxins: A vet's view
Mycotoxins and their impact on ruminant animals are areas that the livestock industry continues to learn more about. In this article, Dr. Luke Miller addresses some of the key talking points surrounding the challenge and the potential ways of managing the problem.
Dr. Radka Borutova, European Technical Support Manager
"After graduating from the University of Veterinary Medicine, I knew exactly what I wanted and what I needed to do. I knew that education is one of the few things nobody can take away from me, so I decided to continue studying and working on my Ph.D. degree at the Institute of Animal Physiology, Slovak Academy of Sciences. I became a member of the Laboratory of Selenium Metabolism and occasionally, as part of my post-graduate studies, I taught students at the University of Veterinary Medicine (subject: pathological anatomy). After defending my Ph.D. thesis with the title "Effects of fusarium mycotoxins on antioxidant and immune status in poultry," I accepted the position of chief state counsellor in the Ministry of Agriculture of the Slovak Republic.
In June 2020, I had an opportunity to join the Alltech® Mycotoxin Management team, and my heart was simply telling me that this is the right company and the right people to work with. I had a previous experience with Alltech as during my Ph.D. studies, when we tested two products from Alltech, namely Mycosorb® and Sel-Plex®. At that time, I attended the Alltech Symposium in Lexington, Kentucky (as a Ph.D. student) and presented my poster there.
My primary role is European Technical Support Manager, while I am also involved in some global tasks. I always liked to study, and, by nature, I have a very supportive personality. By choosing Alltech, I feel like I made the best choice of my life. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, my partner, and my 4-year-old daughter, Valika. A huge proportion of my free time is also dedicated to my dogs, especially to my two German shepherds. The old one, Uno Tri Duby, is a senior and already retired, and the young one, Dexter Juttnerax, is my future sport cynology partner.
I train Dexter for IGP utility, which is basically obedience, protection, and tracking, and in the future I want to compete in IGP or FH, which is high-level tracking."
